Sustainability Most people don’t realize this but America uses over 100 billion plastic bottles each year and only about 20% get recycled. The rest end up in landfills. Now while the beverage industry is responding with "lightweighting" packaging that is making these bottles from less plastic, it is actually INCREASING the number of bottles produced. Today, each water bottle is about 1/2 an ounce (13.6 grams) and the trend is toward a 1/3 an ounce (9.4 grams). Each CollegeCart is made from about 1,100 recycled plastic bottles and as those bottles get lighter, that will increase to as much as 1600 water bottles.
